Tried to watch The Wire as a background show while cleaning and got completely lost after 10 minutes
I had to rewind three times just to figure out who was talking because this show demands your full attention so guess my apartment stays messy for another month, anyone else have a show that just wont let you multitask?

You mentioning "treat every scene like a puzzle piece" really clicked for me. I had the same trouble with The Americans - kept trying to fold laundry while watching and realized I missed three spy drops and a fake marriage falling apart. Some shows just demand you sit still and pay attention like you're in a classroom.

The thing that makes The Wire impossible to multitask with is that everyone talks like they're in on a secret you're not. It's not just the accents, it's that the show refuses to tell you who the main character is for like four episodes. I almost gave up on it until someone told me to treat every scene like a puzzle piece and that honestly changed everything. Did that help you stick with it or did you dump it entirely?

Dropped it twice before it stuck. First time I was trying to fold laundry during episode two and suddenly realized I had no clue who was a cop and who was a dealer. Second time I kept pausing to Google what "the game is the game" meant, which obviously defeated the whole purpose. The puzzle piece advice finally clicked for me too. Now I just commit to giving a show my full attention or I don't bother starting it at all.
