Went back and watched season 1 of The Wire after finishing season 5 - completely different show

Oh yeah nothing like watching a guy spiral backwards to really appreciate the character development. Kinda like eating dessert first then going back for the veggies I guess.

Actually I gotta disagree with you here. Watching season 1 first sets up the whole world of the docks and how the drug trade connects to working class Baltimore. If you start with season 5 you miss seeing McNulty as a real detective before he goes off the rails. Seasons 1 and 2 give you the foundation for why the school system and the media stuff hits so hard later.
