DAE ever lie to themselves about their reading pace?

I used to brag about finishing a novel in three days, but that was before I looked at my actual shelf. Last month I counted 14 half-read books and realized I was skimming everything to look busy, not to actually understand. Now I'm down to one book at a time and I'll reread a chapter twice if I need to, and it feels slower but way more honest. Has anyone else caught themselves doing this and had to adjust their routine?
