Hit 50 rejections this year on job applications. Changed my mind about what that number means.
I always thought hitting 50 rejections would crush me. But after the 30th one, I started tweaking my resume based on the feedback. By the 45th rejection, I had a version that actually got me to a final round interview. The number stopped being a failure count and became proof I was learning. Has anyone else had a number flip from negative to useful like that?

That "started tweaking my resume" part really hit me. I had a similar flip with running, where I used to think hitting 5 miles was just this barrier I couldn't get past. My first few attempts I'd get to like mile 4 and just stop, feeling like a failure every time. But then I started timing each run and realized by the 6th try I was shaving off 30 seconds per mile even if I didn't hit the distance. The number stopped being about the miles and became a log of how my pace was improving. It's funny how a number can change its whole meaning once you decide to track something else.

Used to think hitting a big number like that was just pure discouragement. This actually makes a lot of sense though, tracking different stuff changes everything.
