I used to think open plan offices were great, but after 2 years in one I'm convinced they just make everyone more anxious

I worked in a traditional cubicle setup for 5 years back in St. Louis and got way more done. Then I moved to a company with an open plan in 2021 and at first it felt cool and collaborative. But after 18 months I noticed I was getting way more headaches and finishing fewer tasks. The constant noise and people walking by just kills my focus. Anyone else feel like open offices are just a cost cutting trick dressed up as innovation?

Count me in as the anxious nose picker working on spreadsheets.

Ngl the headaches are real. I ended up buying a pair of noise canceling headphones and that helped a little but it still didn't fix the feeling of people watching me every time I picked my nose or scrolled Twitter for a second. The worst part is the managers act like it's this big teamwork paradise but really they just crammed everyone together to save on rent. If you can swing it get some big over-ear headphones and set up a signal like a red cup or something so people know you don't want to be bothered.
