My brother's wedding toast went sideways and I still don't know if I should've said it

At my brother's reception last month in Columbus, I gave a toast that was supposed to be funny but landed like a brick. I joked that he and his wife fight about the thermostat more than anything else, which was true, but her whole family went dead silent. My brother laughed, his wife didn't. Now they barely talk to me, and my mom says I owe an apology. But here's the thing... I was just being honest about what marriage looks like, not mean. So did I mess up by saying the real stuff, or is everyone else just too fake about how marriage actually works? Has anyone else had a family moment like this where honesty cost you a relationship?

Was the toast really about honesty, or was it about proving you knew their private stuff better than anyone else in the room?
