My coworker swore by email updates. My old boss did 10 minute stand ups. The stand ups actually worked.
I started at a new company in March and the communication here is all long email chains, sometimes 40 messages deep on stuff that could be said in two minutes. At my last job the boss pulled us together every morning for 10 minutes, standing up, no chairs, and we just said what we were doing and what was stuck. Nothing got buried, nobody hid behind a carefully worded reply, and problems got solved before lunch. Here I spend half my day digging through threads trying to figure out who already made a decision. Does anyone's team actually make email work, or is it just where good communication goes to die?
