Overheard my coworker say she only pretends to like her husband's cooking

I was grabbing coffee in the break room yesterday and heard Sarah tell Jenny that she's been faking enthusiasm about her husband's burnt steaks for 12 years. She said she just nods and smiles because it's easier than having the fight about who cooks dinner. Is that what most people do in long relationships or are we all just pretending about different things?

Whoa, maybe she's actually protecting his feelings from the real problem in their marriage.

My buddy Dan's marriage fell apart because his wife kept hiding stuff to "protect" him. She stopped telling him about her credit card debt, which just made it worse when he found out. I've seen this pattern a few times now, and protecting someone's feelings usually just kicks the can down the road. Your mileage may vary, but honesty has saved me more trouble than it's caused.

Honestly this changed my mind, I used to think honesty was always better.
