Skeptical about those $300 noise cancelling headphones, now I can't go back

I used to think anyone dropping that much on headphones was getting scammed. Bought a pair of Sony XM5s last month for a 9 hour flight to Denver and it was a total game changer. The hum of the plane engine just vanished, I actually slept for the first time on a flight in my adult life. Now I realize I was just tolerating constant background noise at home too, my AC unit, the neighbors dog, all of it. Anyone else get sold after trying a 'luxury' version of something they thought was a waste?

Man, my buddy Kyle had the exact same thing happen with a fancy espresso machine. He used to swear by his $20 drip coffee maker and laughed at people buying those big rigs. Then his sister let him use hers for a week and now he won't shut up about the crema and how the cheap stuff tastes like burnt water. He literally told me he can't drink gas station coffee anymore without getting depressed. It's kind of funny how once you know what the good version feels like, the old normal just doesn't cut it anymore.
