Anne from book club still haunts my reading choices
Back in 2018 at the Elm Street library branch, Anne slammed down her copy of our monthly pick and told me I was reading for the plot when I should be reading for the sentences themselves. I laughed it off at the time, but now I catch myself pausing on every other page to admire a single line of prose instead of just rushing to the end. Does anyone else have that one person whose throwaway comment keeps reshaping how you talk about books years later?
