Heard a guy at the coffee shop say 'no book club should ever read a book over 300 pages'

I was grabbing coffee in Austin last week and overheard this at the next table. He was really firm about it, said longer books kill the discussion. My club just finished a 450 page novel and we talked for two hours straight. It made me think, is there a real page limit for a good club pick? What's the longest book your group has read and did it work?

Honestly, that guy's take is wild. My book club read The Stand last year, the full uncut version that's like 1,200 pages. We split it over two months and had the best talks ever. Saying a long book kills discussion just means you're not asking the right questions.

Seriously, a page limit for talking about books?

What's the longest book you've ever delivered by mistake?

Ever drop a phone book on a porch, @oscarsullivan?
