Just realized our book club's most awkward debate actually changed my mind on the whole plot

Honestly, I was totally against the twist ending until Mark's weirdly intense rant about symbolism made it click for me in a way I never saw coming.

But what if the twist ending was just a cop-out... Mark's symbolism talk could be reading into things that aren't there. I've seen books try too hard and end up making no sense.

Remember reading how some authors add twists just for shock value.

Take Gone Girl's twist. Was it just shock or did clues actually add up? Mark's rant on symbols might make sense. But what if the author didn't plan it? Fight Club's twist feels different on a second read. Does your club look for hidden clues or just debate the surface?

Rewatching shows the clues were always there.
