My book club moderator said to skip the "supposedly" boring chapters in War and Peace
She told me to read the abridged version first, so I did, and then the real discussion was all about those boring chapters I skipped. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from a club leader that ruined a book for you?

Honestly, the first copy of War and Peace I owned was 1,200 pages and I still haven't finished it. Skipping the boring parts just means you miss Tolstoy rambling about why Napoleon's battle plans were dumb, which is like half the book's personality. Ngl, your club leader basically set you up to fail at the discussion, but is it really that deep? Maybe just skim the boring chapters next time and fake it, because that's what everyone else is doing anyway.
