My book club spent 45 minutes arguing about whether the main character was a goat or just stubborn
I was in a Zoom session last Tuesday with my local book club debating a novel where the protagonist kept making terrible life choices, and suddenly my friend Rachel pipes up that the character was literally a goat in a metaphor she found online. Turns out the author wrote a secret blog post confirming the character was a goat, but it wasn't in the book at all. Has anyone else had a book club debate explode over something the author said outside the actual story?

Did you guys actually check if she was joking? I've seen people claim authors said wild stuff just to mess with readers. Reading that blog post would be the only way to settle it for me.

Yeah that blog post is actually still up if you search for it. Found it a few weeks ago and she was definitely joking about the whole thing. The post was pretty clear she was making fun of those ridiculous writing advice lists that tell you to never use adverbs or whatever. People took it way too seriously and turned it into this whole drama. Kinda funny how things get twisted when they get shared around without the original context.
