Our club read 9 books this year and only 2 got talked about, so is the whole thing broken?
We counted at the December meeting in Portland and 7 of the 9 picks died after 20 minutes because nobody had notes or questions ready. Half of us want a rule that every member brings two questions, the other half says that turns it into homework. Which side are you on?
Seven out of nine books died? That is wild. Twenty minutes and then nothing? I would be so mad if I actually finished those books for nothing.
But making everyone bring two questions sounds like school all over again. Nobody wants homework for a hobby.
Maybe the real problem is the book picks themselves. If people vote for books they never plan to read, no rule is gonna save that meeting.
Our group does one question per person and it works fine. Keeps it light but nobody sits there silent.
