Remember when book club discussions actually had heat?

Back in 2018 my old book club would fight over a single chapter for an hour. Now with my current group everyone just agrees and moves on. I think it shifted when we switched from in-person to Zoom meetings around 2020. People don't want to ruffle feathers on a screen I guess. Anybody else notice their club getting softer over the years?

lol "heat" over a book club discussion? ngl the whole thing just sounds like people being dramatic tbh. disagreements over fiction aren't exactly life or death situations.

You know what, you're right that it's "just fiction" but sometimes people get really invested in stuff (and honestly, that's okay). It's not like anyone is actually getting hurt over a book club disagreement, you know? But when folks are passionate about something, it can feel bigger than it really is in the moment. I get that you think it's dramatic, but maybe it's just people caring a lot about something that matters to them. Doesn't make it life or death, but it's still real to them in that moment. Just my two cents though!
