Shoutout to my book club for calling me out on my reading pace

I used to rush through every book to have something to say at our Tuesday meetings, but last month Sarah told me I kept missing the quiet character moments. She pointed out how I glossed over the scene where the main character pauses at the window in chapter 3. I decided to slow down and reread that part, and it completely flipped how I saw the ending. Has anyone else had a book club member point out a blind spot in how you read?

Thought I was a fast reader too until my buddy Mike called me out for skipping descriptions. I used to think all that stuff about settings and weather was just filler, but then he made me go back and read the part where the character notices the clock tower in chapter 5. Turns out the whole twist at the end relies on knowing that detail. It totally changed how I see slower paced books now.
