That "unreliable" author everyone warned me about turned out to be a total page-turner
My book club spent three months arguing over whether to pick a novel by this author who has a reputation for confusing timelines and flat endings. I was totally against it based on two bad reviews I read online from 2018. But one member brought in a stack of reader stats showing the author sold over 200,000 copies last year alone. I finally gave in and read it over a weekend, and I couldn't put it down. The writing was sharp, the characters felt real, and I ended up buying three more of their books the next day. Has anyone else had a book or author they dismissed that completely surprised you once you actually gave it a shot?

Hold on, 200,000 copies in a year is impressive, but that might be a total across their whole backlist, not just one book. Either way, I had that same surprise with a sci-fi writer everyone said was too dry for normies. Picked up a used copy of their first book for a dollar, and it completely blew my mind with its worldbuilding. What was the name of the author your book club was debating?
