Update: I thought our club's rule against spoilers was dumb until the new guy ruined The Silent Patient
He blurted out the twist ending five minutes in, and now I get why we have the $5 fine. Has your group ever had to enforce a rule like that?

That $5 fine is totally justified! My friend did the same thing with a movie twist and I'm still mad about it.

What's the interest rate on that spoiler debt? My buddy still owes me for a game ending he ruined last year, so maybe I should send him a bill.

Send him an itemized invoice, it works better than just asking. I added a late fee after 30 days for my cousin who spoiled a show. Make sure you include the exact time and date of the spoiler, it adds weight. You could even charge for emotional distress, that's what my friend group does now. What did he spoil for you?

Actually the fine was for spoiling a book, not a movie. The original story was about a guy who ruined the end of a novel for his friend. Still totally agree it's justified though, spoilers are the worst. I mean, you invest all that time getting into a story and someone just blurts out the ending. Maybe it's just me but that feels like a real violation.
