Why did my book club go from lively debates to just nodding along in 6 months?
We used to argue about character motivations for an hour straight, but after Linda brought that "no spoilers" rule, everyone's scared to say anything real. Has anyone else seen a rule kill the vibe in their group?

Wait, is your Linda related to my Linda who turned our D&D group from dungeon crawling into a book report circle? We had a perfectly good rule about no metagaming, then she added a "no evil alignments" rule and now my lawful evil rogue just sits there eating snacks. Sometimes these rules feel like they were made by someone who's never actually enjoyed a good argument, you know?

Man, that's rough. In my experience, these rule creep situations usually start with one player who just can't handle any friction at the table. I've seen it happen where a DM lets one person's comfort level override what the whole group actually signed up for. Your rogue eating snacks is basically a protest vote, and honestly I've been there. Last time I sat through a session where we spent an hour debating the moral implications of looting a goblin's corpse I almost walked. Sometimes you gotta just talk to the group and ask if the rules are helping or just sucking the fun out of the room.
