Called my dad after 3 years of silence last week
I cut ties with my dad back in 2021 after he missed my wedding for the third time. Last week I just picked up the phone and called him. We talked for about 20 minutes, nothing heavy, just catching up on small stuff. It felt weird but not as bad as I thought it would. Has anyone else tried reaching out after a long break and had it go okay?

Yeah, called my mom after 5 years once. Just small talk for 10 minutes then hung up.

I mean, I've done something similar with an old friend from high school. It's funny how those 20-minute calls feel like you're testing the water with your toe before jumping in. Idk if it's just me but I feel like we're all so busy building these walls and then we realize we left the gate unlocked the whole time. That small talk is like a safety net, right? You're both just seeing if the ground is still solid under your feet. I've noticed that sometimes the hardest part is just picking up the phone, and once you do, the rest kinda sorts itself out.
