Had to choose between telling my sister the truth about her fiancé or keeping the peace at Thanksgiving dinner, what did you do when family loyalty split two ways?
I picked telling her and now she hasn't spoken to me in 6 months, but her fiancé ended up being a total scammer who stole from their joint account, so was honesty worth the burned bridge or would silence have been smarter?

Wait did you have proof of the scam before you told her or just a gut feeling? Sometimes people need to see the receipts themselves before they can accept something that painful. The fact that shes not talking to you after six months makes me wonder if shes mad at you for being right or if shes just embarrassed she didnt see it coming. Either way her silence is a choice shes making every single day, not just a reaction to one conversation. How did the rest of your family handle it, did they take your side or are they trying to play neutral?

I used to be pretty hardcore about staying out of other people's relationships, but this changed my mind completely. My cousin went through almost the same thing with her sister, and she kept her mouth shut because she didn't want to cause drama. Six months later her sister was out 15 grand and the guy vanished. @iris927 you're right that the silence is a choice she's making, and I think sometimes people just can't handle the mirror being held up. My aunt and uncle tried to play neutral at first, but after the evidence came out they told my cousin she did the right thing even if it was painful.

Funny how silence can cost more than drama, my uncle lost a boat that way.
