Hit 90 days no contact with my sister today
After she guilt-tripped me for missing her kid's birthday while I was in the hospital, I finally cut her off 3 months ago. Blocked her number and socials, and honestly my stress levels dropped like crazy. Has anyone else found that going no contact with a family member actually improved your mental health?

Did you ever notice how much easier it is to breathe when you're not constantly bracing for someone else's drama? I went low contact with my cousin for a while and suddenly realized I wasn't spending all my free time replaying our conversations in my head.

Started feeling guilty at first, but then realized the guilt was just old programming from years of her putting me down. My therapist pointed out that family bonds are supposed to go both ways, not just one person giving while the other takes. It took me a solid six months to stop checking my phone expecting a nasty message. That peace of mind is worth whatever awkwardness might come up at holidays.

Are you sure the therapist isn't just telling you what you want to hear? I mean, everyone I know who gets into therapy suddenly starts talking about "boundaries" and "toxic family members" like it's a magic wand. Six months of not checking your phone sounds like a lot of energy spent on something that maybe wasn't even that big a deal in the first place. Holidays get awkward, sure, but cutting people off over some mean texts or old arguments feels like a permanent fix for a temporary problem. Just seems like sometimes people make family drama way bigger than it is, you know?
