I cut off my best friend of 11 years over $600 and I would do it again
Back in 2019 I let my buddy Marcus move into my spare room in Columbus rent free for 5 months so he could get back on his feet after a bad breakup, and he swore he would pay me back the $600 I fronted him for his car repair once he found work. When I finally brought it up 8 months later he laughed and said "that's what friends are for" and acted like I was the one being weird about money. Everyone in our group told me I was being petty over $600, but I stopped taking his calls and honestly my life got quieter and better, so does anyone else think the amount does not matter when someone shows you they never planned to pay it back?
I used to roll my eyes at stuff like this and think just let it go, it's only money. But then I watched a friend pull the same thing on someone else and it hit me, the cash was never the point. It's that he laughed at you for even asking, that tells you everything about how he saw the whole thing.
