I told my best friend of 9 years to stop calling me after 10pm, and she hung up and never called again
Back in March I finally said something after she kept waking me up at 11:30 on work nights just to vent about her ex. I had asked nicely twice before, but this time I said it straight: no calls after 10 unless it's an emergency. She got quiet, said "okay," and hung up. That was 5 months ago and she hasn't reached out since, even though I texted her twice just to check in. At first I felt terrible, like I ruined a 9 year friendship over a bedtime. Now I think she was never really calling for me, she just needed someone awake at midnight. Has anyone else lost a friend over a boundary that felt tiny when they set it?
