Quit pushing the 'forgive and forget' idea when it comes to family
Everyone says you need to patch things up with parents no matter what, but after my dad skipped my wedding in Phoenix for a fishing trip, I cut him off completely six years ago. Instead of wasting energy on guilt, I started putting that time into building friendships that actually show up. Has anyone else found that ending a family tie freed up space for better relationships?

Honestly, don't you think skipping that wedding might have taught you something too?

You see it different for sure. Skipping that wedding just teaches you to avoid tough stuff instead of facing it head on rough patches are where the real growth happens. Not saying you gotta be perfect, but bailing out can rob you of a chance to learn something real about people.

Staying for my cousin's whole messy wedding weekend taught me more about grace than running ever could.
