The 14-month gym membership I paid for but never used in Phoenix
Signed up in March 2022 after a big New Year push, paid $52 a month for a place I drove past twice. I kept telling myself I'd go after work, but the parking lot was always packed and I hated waiting for a bench. Cancelled last month after 14 months, that's $728 down the drain for zero workouts. The real kicker? The gym had a 3-day free trial week and I could have tested the crowd first, but I was too proud. Anyone else pay for something for over a year and just ate the loss because cancelling felt like admitting failure?

Nine months of meal kits? Damn. You lasted way longer than I would have, I think I would have cracked around month four when the boxed ice packs started piling up in the freezer. The weird thing is I can totally see the logic though, each month you don't cancel it feels more ridiculous to finally do it, like the whole thing becomes a sunk cost monster. $728 is brutal but nine months of food boxes has to be worse, that's like a whole fridge of guilt right there.

The part about the 3-day trial being too proud to use really hits home. My take is that cancelling feels like you're admitting you messed up, but the real failure is letting $728 just evaporate because you'd rather avoid an awkward conversation with the front desk. I did the same thing with a meal kit subscription for like nine months, kept telling myself I'd use it when work slowed down. At some point you gotta just eat the $35 cancellation guilt and call it a lesson learned, even if it stings.
