Took me 4 years to finally cut off my toxic brother for good
I kept making excuses for his behavior, like how he showed up late to my wedding and made a scene, but the straw was when he borrowed $500 from me and claimed I never lent it. I ended it with a text message and blocked him everywhere. Has anyone else had a family member gaslight them over money? That was the worst part for me.

Wait, did he really claim you never lent him the money? That's straight up gaslighting, not just a regular argument. I've seen this before with a friend and his dad. The dad borrowed like $200 for "groceries" then acted like it never happened. Next time they talked, the dad pretended he was the one who lent money. It's a control thing, making you doubt your own memory. You did the right thing cutting him off, no question. Money stuff like that just reveals who people really are underneath.

Did he ever bring it up again later or just pretend the whole thing never existed... That's the part that gets me, the rewriting of history.

My buddy had a similar thing with his uncle. Lent him five hundred bucks to fix his truck, said he'd pay it back in a month. A year later, my friend brought it up and the uncle swore up and down he never borrowed a dime, then started saying my friend owed him money from some favor years ago. They don't talk anymore either. It's wild how quick people rewrite stuff when cash is involved.
