Why I stopped talking to my sister after she borrowed $800 last year

Last June I lent my younger sister eight hundred bucks to cover her rent after she swore she'd pay me back in two weeks. Eight months went by with zero payments and a bunch of excuses like her car breaking down or work cutting her hours. I finally confronted her at a family barbecue in March and she told me I was being selfish for asking since I was a contractor and made more money anyway. That was it for me I just walked away from the table and haven't spoken to her since. The bridge is burned and honestly I sleep better knowing my wallet and my trust are safe. Has anyone else had a family member flip the script on you like that after you helped them out?

Man that sucks but I get it completely. Same thing happened with my cousin and a thousand bucks for his "business startup." Now he posts pics of new sneakers every week and acts like I'm the bad guy for bringing it up.

Had a buddy from trade school pull almost the exact same move. Lent him two grand to buy tools for a side gig he swore was gonna take off. Next thing I know, he's posting vacation pics from Cancun and bragging about a new gaming setup. When I finally asked about the money, he got all defensive saying I was "holding him back" and that I didn't understand his hustle. Some people just see a loan as free cash with no strings attached. It's why I don't lend money to friends or family anymore, period. Learned that lesson the hard way a few times over now.
