I finally tried that new 'self-sharpening' band saw blade from a trade show
It lasted about a week before the edge was completely gone, costing me almost $80 and half a day of downtime. Anyone have a brand they actually trust for heavy use on beef quarters?

That "self-sharpening" claim is total marketing garbage.

Ugh, tell me about it. Fell for that once with a "self-sharpening" drawer for kitchen knives. Total scam. The little ceramic rods inside just wore down. Ended up with a drawer of dull blades in six months. It's just a gimmick to charge more.

Ever try those ceramic coated blades? I got a set of kitchen knives with that coating a few years back. They honestly stayed sharper way longer than my old steel ones. I don't buy the "self-sharpening" magic either, but the right coating can make a real difference. What kind of blade are you talking about?
