My band saw blade snapped mid-cut on a prime rib this morning
Was breaking down a whole prime rib for a holiday order and the blade just let go on the third cut. Ended up with a gash in the roast and had to waste about 3 inches off the end. Anyone else had a blade go bad at the worst possible time?

Three cuts on a 16 pound prime rib and the blade gave out right where the bone and fat meet, which is exactly what happened to me last Thanksgiving. @diana617 hit the nail on the head about tension, I used to crank mine tight until a buddy told me to back it off a quarter turn and it made a huge difference. That spot where you hit bone is like a shockwave through the whole blade, so running it loose lets it flex instead of snapping clean off like mine did. I ended up switching to a 12 tooth blade for beef and it holds up way better than the standard 10 tooth ones, just a thought for next time.

That's rough man, prime rib ain't cheap to be wasting like that. Blades seem to always pick the worst possible times to snap, like they know you're in a rush. Maybe the blade had a small crack or something from a previous cut that finally gave out. Have you checked the tension on your saw lately? I've found that running it a little looser can help absorb the shock of hitting bone without snapping clean through.
