Spent $150 on a hydraulic tailgate for my truck and it was worth every penny

I haul half beef and whole hogs to customers pretty often, and loading a 200 pound quarter into a 4 foot bed by myself was getting old fast. Found a used unit off a 2012 F250 for $150 and bolted it on last weekend. Already used it 3 times this week. My back feels a lot better. Anyone else put one on their personal truck or just me?

I used to think power tailgates were just a luxury thing for people who didn't want to lift their golf bags (you know, the ones with the fancy leather interiors). Then I tried loading a 180 pound hog by myself into my truck bed after a long day and that changed my tune real quick. Found a unit off a wrecked 2011 Ram 2500 for $125 and it has honestly saved me from multiple chiropractor visits. Totally gets why you'd jump on that deal.

Yeah, 180 pounds is a far cry from grocery bags. Still prefer my old manual tailgate though.

Tried lifting one of those 200 pound quarters myself and my back sent me a formal letter of resignation the next day. I feel like power tailgates are the automotive equivalent of realizing you can't just pretend you're still 25 and invincible. I don't have one on my truck yet but every time I heave a bag of chicken feed up there I question my life choices. Might have to hunt down a cheap used unit before I end up needing a backiotomy or whatever they call it when your spine gives up on life.
