Spent 45 minutes trying to get a bone-in ribeye to tie right last night

I just couldn't get that butcher's knot to hold around the tail end, kept slipping off every time. Anyone else have a trick for keeping it tight on the first try?

Ugh hate when butcher's knot just won't cooperate, so frustrating

Oh man I feel this so hard. The butcher's knot is like the one thing that looks so simple in videos but absolutely refuses to behave in real life. I swear I spent a solid 20 minutes last weekend fighting with mine and it just kept slipping right out.

Not me but I had a buddy who tried learning the butcher's knot for a sausage making party he was hosting. He spent like an hour watching YouTube videos and practicing with his shoelaces before everyone showed up. When it came time to actually tie the casings, he fumbled so bad that he ended up using regular kitchen twine and just doing a basic knot instead. His sausages still turned out fine though, nobody even noticed the difference. So yeah, your mileage may vary but sometimes the simple stuff works just as well.
