That $300 band saw blade sharpener was a bad bet

Honestly, I thought I was being smart buying that cheap blade sharpener off a tool truck last fall. Spent about $300 on it thinking I'd save money keeping my bandsaw blades fresh instead of sending them out. Six weeks later the thing had already worn down unevenly and started leaving rough cuts on my pork loins. I tried adjusting it a few times but it just made the wobble worse. Ended up tossing two good blades because the sharpener messed up the teeth so bad. Should have just stuck with the local sharpening service I used before for $15 a blade. Has anyone else had bad luck with those portable sharpeners or did I just pick the wrong one?

Man, I did the exact same thing with a cheap sharpener last year and ruined three good blades before I wised up!

A good sharpener pays for itself in a year if you run through blades like we do, and the brand name units hold their adjustment way better than the off-truck specials. Sounds like you got what you paid for, which was a gamble that didn't work out.
