That $50 meat grinder from the farm supply store I swore would break after one use

Honestly, I picked up one of those cheap LEM grinders from a store outside Des Moines last fall just to grind burger for a family cookout. Figured the plastic bits would crack or the motor would smoke out after a couple pounds. I ran about 30 pounds of chuck through it that weekend stopping every 5 minutes to let it cool. That thing is still going strong 8 months later and I use it every other week now. Anyone else have gear they thought was junk that actually held up better than the expensive stuff?

Give it a quick spray of Pam before each use, keeps the internals from binding up.

I heard an old timer tell me once that Pam works okay but it can leave a sticky buildup over time, especially if you use too much. @spencer782, a buddy of mine swears by using a dry lube instead since it doesn't attract dust and grime like cooking spray does. He says it keeps things moving smooth without gumming up the works after a few months. Just something to think about if you're seeing it get sluggish.

My kitchen scissors have a layer of Pam residue that's basically become a custom grip at this point. Is this really a problem or just an excuse to buy something from the hardware store?
