Burned out on consulting after 8 months, night and day difference from my first corporate job

Started at a big consulting firm last March after leaving a steady corporate analyst role I was in for 4 years. The first 3 months I thought I'd made the right call, better pay and all that. Then the travel hit hard, 3 weeks in a row flying to a client site in Cleveland left me sleeping 5 hours a night. By August I was putting in 60 hour weeks and my back hurt from cheap hotel beds. What changed? The constant client demands and zero schedule control, not the work itself. Has anyone else made a jump to consulting and watched their free time vanish faster than they expected?

yeah but like was it the travel specifically that got you or the whole on-call 24/7 thing? cause from what you said it sounds like the lack of control over your own hours was worse than the actual workload. did you ever try to set boundaries with your manager or did they just expect you to be available whenever? i've heard some firms are worse than others about that.

That "zero schedule control" bit is just how everything feels now, even with groceries and stuff.

I think meal planning actually gives me more control than winging it.
