DAE get stuck in interview feedback loops? I started asking 'What's one thing I could have done better today?' right at the end.

A hiring manager in Austin actually gave me a real answer, and I used it to land the next job I interviewed for. Anyone else tried a direct question like that and gotten useful info?

Honestly asking for one piece of feedback sounds good in theory but it puts the interviewer in a weird spot. They're trained to give safe, generic answers to avoid legal trouble, so you're just making them uncomfortable for no real gain. Most of the time you'll get a polite brush-off anyway, so why put them on the spot like that? It can even leave a bad last impression if they feel pressured to criticize you right after you met.

Austin hiring managers seem more direct than most. That's a smart move to ask for one specific thing, cuts through the vague replies. I might steal that question for my next call.

Totally get the feedback loop thing, it's the worst. I actually started asking a similar question but about my resume, like "Does anything on here make you pause?" One guy pointed out a weird gap I didn't even notice, fixed it right away. It's scary to ask but sometimes they really do tell you.

Yeah I read a blog post that said asking for one piece of feedback makes people way more likely to actually give it. They don't feel put on the spot to review your whole thing. It really does work.
