Hit $50k in savings at 32 and it messed with my head more than I expected

I always thought hitting a nice round number like that would feel like winning, but honestly it made me question why I was grinding so hard at a job I don't even like. My buddy Tom in Chicago said I was saving for a future that might not look how I imagine, and he was right. Now I'm looking at switching to a lower-paying gig with better hours just to see if it feels different. Has anyone else had a milestone shift what they wanted out of work?

Wait, did you feel weirdly let down too?

Yeah my buddy Mark hit me with the same thing when I saved up $30k a few years ago. I was so proud of the number but then I sat there thinking "this is it?" and it was like the floor fell out. Making a change to something slower really helped my headspace.

this is it?" hit me hard because I had a buddy who literally cried after paying off his student loans. He thought he'd feel like a million bucks but instead just sat in his car for 20 minutes feeling empty. He ended up dropping his side hustle and just chilling more, now he says his bank account is smaller but he actually sleeps at night. Kinda makes you wonder if chasing numbers is just a trap our brains set for us lol.
