I always thought quitting without a backup plan was dumb, then my manager did one thing that changed my mind
I worked at a restaurant supply warehouse in Columbus for almost two years and I always rolled my eyes at people who quit with nothing lined up. Last month my manager pulled me into the little office by the loading dock on a Tuesday afternoon and told me they were cutting my hours from 38 to 22 starting the next schedule. No warning, no sit down, just a printout of the new schedule slid across the desk. I sat in my truck in the parking lot for about 20 minutes and then drove straight to the temp agency on High Street instead of going home. By Friday I had a 6 week gig doing inventory for a medical company at $19 an hour, which was more than I was making before. I gave my two weeks notice that same Friday and my manager looked shocked, like she couldn't figure out why I would leave. The thing is, I used to think loyalty to a job was worth something, but watching them drop my hours over a piece of paper with zero conversation made me realize I was the only one being loyal. Has anyone else had a boss cut their hours out of nowhere and did you stay or go?
