I finally figured out why my resume kept getting ignored for 6 months

I was applying to warehouse supervisor jobs in Phoenix for half a year and getting nothing but automated rejections. Turns out I was using a two-column layout that the online systems couldn't read at all. How long did it take you to realize something simple was holding your job search back?

Realize that this is basically happening everywhere now, not just with resumes. I was at a coffee shop the other day and overheard someone talking about how their application for an apartment got auto rejected because the PDF scanner couldn't read their fancy font. Same with those online job portals that parse your resume and just throw out anything that doesn't look like a standard template. It's like we're all designing our lives for robots now, not for actual people. And the craziest part is that even once you get past the machines, the humans reading your stuff are so used to the bland, standardized format that anything creative just looks wrong to them too. So you end up in this weird loop where everyone's documents all look the same because that's the only thing that works anymore.
