My old manager in Dallas said 'you're too quiet for leadership' in my review, and I still think about it at 2am
I was 26 and had been running the weekend crew at a call center in Dallas for about 8 months, training 6 new hires and covering shifts nobody else wanted. In my yearly review she wrote that I 'lacked presence' and said I should talk more in meetings if I wanted to move up, which felt weird since my team had the lowest turnover on the floor. I asked her what that actually meant in terms of numbers and she just said 'you'll know it when you feel it.' I didn't push back and just nodded, and now 4 years later I still hear it every time I stay quiet in a meeting. Did anyone else get vague feedback like that, and did you ever figure out what they wanted?
