My rule to skip work emails at night fixed my focus

I used to reply to work messages right up until bed. This kept my brain on job stuff all the time. So I decided to stop looking at work emails after 7 PM. The first week felt weird, like I was missing out. But soon, I noticed I slept better and woke up clearer. Now I get more done in less time at my desk. Has cutting out a small habit helped your work day too?

Totally agree with setting that hard stop. It trains your brain to actually clock out, which feels impossible at first. That mental separation ends up making you sharper during real work hours.

I get where you're coming from, but forcing a hard stop can actually backfire. For a lot of jobs, ideas pop up at random times, and shutting that down means missing out. If you cut off completely, you might come back to a bigger mess the next day. Being always a little connected helps you stay on top of things without stress. That mental separation you talk about can make it harder to jump back in. So for some people, blurring the lines a bit works better than strict rules.

Honestly, same, and @paigep85 gets it.

That rule can also protect your personal time from a slow creep of small asks.
