PSA: I ignored a job posting that said 'no degree needed' for 8 months, turns out it was real and I got hired
I kept scrolling past a listing for a claims adjuster role at a mid-size insurance company in Columbus for almost 8 months because the pay range looked too good for something that only asked for a high school diploma. My cousin finally pushed me to apply in January, and I had a phone screen within 4 days. The hiring manager told me the company trains everyone from scratch because they got tired of people with degrees leaving after a year. I started at $52,000 with full benefits and a pension match, and I'm coming up on 6 months now. The work is mostly reading reports and calling people back, not glamorous, but it's steady. Has anyone else had a job posting turn out way more legit than it looked, or the opposite where it was a total waste of time?
The pay range is a classic red flag though, because $52k for an entry level claims job in Columbus means you're probably handling high volume calls with angry people all day, and that turnover they mentioned is exactly why they keep hiring. Idk, maybe it's just me but a pension match at a mid size insurance company sounds like the kind of place that runs people into the ground before they hit the vesting period.
