Rant: Job listings all want video clips now and it's draining
I'm hunting for a new graphic design job and every application wants a video intro. It adds so much time and stress to just send out a resume. Has anyone found a good way to deal with this?

Do you think companies ask for video clips just to see if you look and sound a certain way? It turns applying for jobs into a weird audition instead of focusing on your actual work. What about designers who are great at their job but get nervous on camera? This trend probably scares off plenty of qualified people. Has trying to make one generic video for all your applications helped at all, or does it still feel fake?

Totally agree with @barbara_dixon on this. Used to think video clips were fine, just part of applying. But seeing talented folks choke on camera changed that. It becomes an audition, not about work. That probably scares off plenty of good people. Generic videos still feel fake, like you're acting.

I spent three hours last weekend trying to record a two-minute video for a single application. The whole process just feels like an extra, pointless hoop to jump through that has nothing to do with design skills. It's exhausting and makes me want to apply to fewer places, which is the opposite of what they probably want.

Actually, I see it the other way. Good point from @barbara_dixon, but a quick video lets your personality come through before they even see your work.
