Shoutout to the guy at the hardware store who told me to stop cold calling

About six months ago, I was trying to get more roofing jobs and spent hours on the phone with no luck. A contractor I met buying shingles said to just ask every client for a referral instead. I started doing that after each job, and this week I booked three new projects just from word of mouth. What's the best way you've found to get new clients without feeling pushy?

Oh man, that is such solid advice! I had the exact same thing happen with my handyman work. I used to chase leads online and it was exhausting. Then I just started asking people if they knew anyone else who might need help, right after they said they were happy with the job. It feels way more natural than cold calls, and honestly, most people are happy to pass your name along if you did good work. It took a little bit to build up, but now I hardly ever have to look for work. It just comes to me.

Yeah, that's the real trick right there. I mean, the best part is it turns your happy customers into a little team that vets new clients for you. They're basically only gonna recommend you to people they actually like, so you end up with nicer jobs and way fewer headaches. It filters out the difficult people before they even call you.

Totally, @wesley_jones. Read that's called a "referral flywheel.
