Spent a morning shadowing at a tech startup and walked out thinking office culture is a total scam
I went to a friend's company at 9 AM in Austin last Thursday. Everyone was either on their laptop in a hoodie or pacing around with a latte. Nobody talked to each other except in Slack. I get remote work is fine, but if you drag people into an office just to sit silent and stare at screens, what's the point? That place had a kombucha tap and beanbags and zero actual conversation. How do you handle feeling like your office is just a more expensive place to be antisocial?

You're making a big assumption that the point of an office is conversation when it's really about having a physical boundary between work and home plus the chance for quick problem solving in person. That kombucha tap and beanbags are just perks to make the tradeoff of commuting feel less stupid, not an invitation to chat about your weekend.

so you think the whole "work life balance" thing is just a marketing gimmick then, not something offices actually care about?
