That 'fake it till you make it' advice cost me a job offer

My uncle told me to just act confident in interviews even if I didn't know the stuff. So I lied about knowing Python in a data analyst interview at a company in Austin. They gave me a take-home project and I couldn't do any of it. Now I'm back applying to entry level jobs and feel like an idiot.

Like, being confident is one thing, but lying about a whole programming language is a whole different ballgame. Honestly, that take-home project must have been a nightmare, I feel for you. Your mileage may vary, but I think a little nervous honesty about learning the basics goes way further than a bold faced lie.
