That one manager who told me to stop asking questions

About 3 years ago I was working at a marketing firm in Austin. I asked my boss why we were using a certain SEO tool instead of a cheaper one that did the same thing. She just looked at me and said, "Because I said so, that's why." It was so dismissive I nearly quit on the spot. Has anyone else had a boss shut down a genuine question like that and how did you handle it?

I read something recently that said some managers see questions as insubordination or a threat to their authority. So they shut them down with "because I said so" instead of actually answering.

Wait, that's awful. I'm sorry they treated you like that, asking a simple question is totally normal. Honestly, that kind of thing can really mess with your confidence at work, your mileage may vary but I'd have been looking for a new job too.
