30
The 30 minute rule that stopped my job search spiral
After 4 months of sending out resumes with zero callbacks, I hit a wall around 2pm every day where I'd just refresh the job boards and feel worse. A buddy from my old warehouse job told me to set a timer for 30 minutes max on applications, then close the laptop completely. Sounds dumb but I started treating it like a shift at work, punch in at 9am, punch out at 11am, no exceptions. That forced me to use my morning energy on tailoring my resume instead of just blasting the same one everywhere. Got 2 interviews in the next 3 weeks, one turned into an offer last Tuesday. Anyone else find that limiting your job hunt hours actually makes it more productive, or do you think I just got lucky after the slump? I'm curious if the tightening up trick works for other people in different fields.

The timer trick totally works. Treating applications like a real shift forces you to stop doomscrolling and actually get stuff done. Saw the same thing happen with my buddy in construction, he cut his search to two hours a day and landed way more interviews. The desperation energy you get from staring at job boards all day comes through in your resume and cover letters, people can smell it. Tightening the window keeps that panicked vibe out of your writing. You probably got a bit lucky too, but the structure definitely helped you get in front of the right people faster.
