TIL from a BLS report that only 1 in 3 workers who get laid off find a new job within 6 months
I was poking around the Bureau of Labor Statistics site after my brother got let go in March from his warehouse gig in Akron, and that number hit me hard, so for anyone who has been through a layoff, how long did it actually take you to land something new?
Did it take you longer than you expected, or did the hunt go faster once you found the right field? My cousin got laid off from a parts plant and it took him almost nine months, mostly because he kept applying for the same kind of job that was drying up in our area. The guys who switched to truck driving or HVAC seemed to land work in a few weeks. Six months sounds about right, maybe even a little hopeful.
